Transitional Planning Support

One size does not fit all:
Young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders have unique needs for transitional programming

Our staff partners with individuals, families, educators, and community members to identify the pivotal skills necessary for a successful adult life and build a comprehensive and inclusive plan to realize this vision.

The Center for Independence at CCSN offers expert consultation to young adults, families, schools, adult service agencies, 18-21 programs, and transition academies, to prepare individuals with ASD to live more independent and productive lives.

Research has shown that individuals on the autism spectrum can achieve greater independence, professional success, and a better quality of life if they are provided with effective training, intervention, and support during their young adult years.

Starting in middle school, families, school based teams, and community providers need to increase their efforts to prepare individuals for the challenges of adulthood.

Our consultants can help schools and organizations with:

  • Staff training (group or individual)
  • Program design
  • Data collection systems and data analysis
  • Individual case consultation and intervention
  • Program observation
  • Supervision/observation of coaches and off-site collaboration

Usually, agencies have a set template they use when working with clients with intellectual disabilities or complex psychiatric disorders. However, this rigid approach can cause more problems than they solve. The Center for Independence at CCSN understands that individuals with autism need a specialized approach to achieve full independence.
